General Guidelines to Enter Thailand

Kindly be noted that the e-Visa is implemeted and effective from 1 January 2025, all nationals applying for a Thai e-Visa must apply and submit his/her application through the new online e-Visa platform at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ . In this connection, visa application is no longer accepted at the Embassy. 

In addition to the requirements listed on the official Thai e-Visa website mentioned above, please also refer to the specific requirements outlined on this Embassy's website.


Before entering to Thailand, all travellers must make sure that they are +in possession of;

1. Passport valid for at least 6 months with APPROPRIATE VISA (if needed)

    - List of Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival to Thailand as attached below:

Visa_Exemption_(1)

Ethiopian and Seychellois passport holders can apply for Visa on Arrival (VoA) at the arriving airports in Thailand and allowed to stay up to 15 days for tourism purpose.
  
2. Proof of round-trip air ticket, accommodation, adequate finances (see 2.1), and health certificate (see 2.2)

    2.1 Adequate Finances
          According to the Thai Immigration Act, foreigners who fall into any of the 11 categories prohibited to enter Thailand (click), which Include "having no appropriate means of living on entering the Kingdom", will be denied their entry into Thailand. 
          2.1.1 holders of tourist visa, non-immigrant visa must be able to prove that they have adequate finances equivalent to at least 20,000 Baht per person (around 700 USD) or 40,000 Baht per family (around 1,400 USD).
          2.1.2 On-arrival-visa tourists and holders of transit visa must be able to prove that they have adequate finances equivalent to at least 10,000 Baht per person (around 350 USD) or 20,000 Baht per family (around 700 USD).

          In order to facilitate foreign tourists, Thai Immigration Officers conduct random inspection of foreign tourists' means of living upon arrival at all ports of entry. If the tourists are not able to prove that they have adequate finances, the officers will then consider case-by-case whether to allow the entry. The random inspection will not take place after the tourists have been granted an entry and have passed through the Immigration checkpoints.

    2.2 International Health Certificate on Yellow Fever Vaccination
          Foreign nationals travelling from/through countries which have been declared as Yellow Fever Infected Areas (click to see List of countries which require International Health Certificate for Yellow Fever Vaccination here) must acquire an International Health Certificate verifying the receiving of a Yellow Fever vaccination.
          Upon arrival at a port of entry, you are required to present the Certificate at the health control counter located before the Immigration checkpoints. It is also strongly recommended that, before traveling to Thailand, travelers register their yellow fever certificate on the online platform at https://thaihealthpass.com/ (click).


Visa Application Procedures

- All nationals applying for a Thai e-Visa must creat an account to apply and submit his/her application through the new online e-Visa platform at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ .

- Basically, visa consideration process takes AT LEAST 4 working-days from the day the application is successfully submitted, payment is successfully made, and all requirements are fulfilled. Please note that the Embassy reserves its full right to request additional documents, seek clarification, and/or require further interviews.

- Applicants are strongly advised to carefully plan their travel and prepare all documents. Additionally, please be aware of the Embassy's public holidays, which may affect processing times.

Please ensure that all documents submitted with your visa application are genuine and verifiable. Submitting fraudulent documents is a criminal offense under the law, and offenders will be blacklisted, resulting in a prohibition from entering Thailand.

Additional requirement for passport holders of countries with special consideration

Currently, there are 28 countries in the list of nationalities with special consideration as follow:
    East Asia - China / North Korea
    South & Central Asia - Afghanistan / Bangladesh / Nepal / Pakistan 
    Middle East - Egypt / Iran / Iraq / Lebanon / Palestine / Syria / Yemen
    Africa - Cameroon / Central African Republic / Republic of Congo / DR Congo / Equatorial Guinea / Guinea / Liberia / Libya / Mali / Nigeria / Sao Tome and Principe / Sierra Leone / Somalia / Sudan
   South America - Colombia

    (1) China / Bangladesh / Nepal / Pakistan / Egypt / Iraq / Iran / Lebanon / Palestine / Syria / Yemen / Central Afican Republic / Cameroon / Republic of Congo / DR Congo / Equatorial Guinia / Guinea / Liberia / Libya / Mali / Sao Tome and Principe / Sierra Leone / Somalia / Sudan … Please consult on case-by-case basis with the Embassy by Email at [email protected] before applying for Thailand Privilege, Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR), SMART Visa and Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

    (2) Colombia ... Please consult on case-by-case basis with the Embassy by Email at [email protected] before applying for Non-Immigrant visa, Thailand Privilege, LTR, SMART Visa and DTV.  

    (3) North Korea and Afghanistan … are required to undergo an interview for visa applications in all cases after their application submission.

    (4) Nigeria ... are required to undergo an interview for visa applications in all cases after their application submission. Additionally, applicants are required to upload police clearance in their application. In this connection, applicants are recommended to apply for a visa at least 4-6 weeks before the travel date but do not submit your application more than 3 months before your departure date.

Some cases might need approval from concerned authorities in Thailand before issuing the visa, and the process could take at least 3 weeks. Should you have any question, please contact the Embassy by E-mail at [email protected].

From 15 July 2024 onwards, application for Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) and Non-Immigrant Education (Non-ED Plus) is available. Further details are as attached below.
