เมื่อวันที่ 2 มีนาคม 2564 นางสาวศศิริทธิ์ ตันกุลรัตน์ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงไนโรบี ซึ่งมีเขตอาณาครอบคลุมเอธิโอเปีย ได้ให้การต้อนรับ Mrs. Tigist Terefe, Area Manager Kenya ของสายการบิน Ethiopian Airlines ซึ่งได้เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะเอกอัครราชทูตฯ เพื่อแนะนำตัว ในโอกาสนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้ขอบคุณสายการบิน Ethiopian Airlines ที่ได้ให้การสนับสนุนภารกิจของสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ในการให้ความช่วยเหลือคนไทยในแอฟริกาเดินทางกลับบ้านภายใต้สถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 เป็นอย่างดีมาโดยตลอด และสายการบิน Ethiopian Airlines ได้ย้ำถึงความนิยมในประเทศไทยในหมู่ชาวเอธิโอเปีย ปัจจุบันอยู่ระหว่างการเตรียมความพร้อมที่จะรองรับนักท่องเที่ยวชาวเอธิโอเปียที่จะเดินทางไปประเทศไทยเพื่อการท่องเที่ยวเพิ่มเติมในอนาคตอันใกล้

ตั้งแต่เกิดเหตุการแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 และได้มีเที่ยวบินนำคนไทย 99 คนจากแอฟริกากลับบ้านเป็นเที่ยวบินแรกเมื่อวันที่ 5 มิถุนายน 2563 จนถึงวันนี้ สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้จัดเที่ยวบินนำคนไทยกลับบ้านแล้ว 32 เที่ยวบิน โดยมีคนไทยในแอฟริกาได้กลับประเทศไทยโดยเที่ยวบินดังกล่าวแล้วทั้งสิ้น 1,466 คน

On 2 March 2021, H.E. Miss Sasirit Tangulrat, Ambassador of Thailand to Kenya with the jurisdiction covering Ethiopia, welcomed Mrs. Tigist Terefe, Area Manager Kenya of the Ethiopian Airlines for a courtesy call. In this occasion, the Ambassador expressed her gratitute to the Ethiopian Airlines for continuous supporting the Royal Thai Embassy's mission to repatriate Thai nationals in Africa back home since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ethiopian Airlines also stressed that Thailand is among the most popular destinations for Ethiopians and the airline is getting ready to accommodate more Ethiopians who will be travelling to Thailand for tourist purpose in the coming months.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started and the first repatriation flight took 99 Thai nationals from Africa back home on 5 June 2020, until today the Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi has arranged 32 repatriation flights and facilitated 1,466 Thai nationals in Africa on their journey back home in Thailand.
